APEC 2021 LIVE with Business: A sustainable and resilient APEC food system
5 August, 2021
Manaaki whenua, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua. If we take care of the earth and take care of the people, we will take care of the future.
This APEC LIVE with Business session will consider the role of sustainable food production in the APEC region and the importance of the business community integrating sustainability to enhance resilience and support the region’s recovery from COVID-19. The session will explore how businesses are responding to these challenges, whether these actions will genuinely deliver a long-lasting recovery for future generations, and how business and government across the region can take a united approach to ensuring a more sustainable APEC food system.
The Asia Pacific is the most dynamic regional economy in the world and sustainable, resilient food systems are fundamental to this continued vibrancy. For our region to thrive we need to ensure that everyone has access to sufficient nutrition, our food producers have sustainable livelihoods (including through trade), and that our environment is protected and safeguarded for future generations. The global pandemic has further emphasised the importance of sustainable food systems - bringing the importance of safety, nutrition, animal welfare, climate change and environmental protection to the fore.
