On Thursday afternoon, the first virtual media conference of APEC 2021 was held for domestic and international media. 

Media have only a limited time to register to attend the SOM 1 media conference. 

The priorities for APEC 2021 have been revealed following the first virtual meeting of New Zealand’s host year.

In a special ceremony in Wellington, APEC New Zealand welcomed economies for its host year. 

New Zealand kicked off its APEC host year today, with a pōwhiri taking place on Wellington’s waterfront with local iwi Te Atiawa, and a number of Government ministers welcoming representatives from the other 20 APEC economies.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern took over the leadership of APEC earlier today, when she joined leaders from the 21 APEC economies virtually for the forum’s final 2020 meeting. 

Ministers from the APEC’s 21 member economies issued a joint statement following the virtual APEC Ministerial Meeting. 

New Zealand will become the first economy to host an entirely virtual host year of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
